In case you missed it, the team at Optilogic just launched the Cosmic Frog supply chain design solution. We introduced this next-generation design platform in a live webinar earlier this month, where attendees could hear first-hand from our leadership team and ask their most ribbiting questions (pun intended).
We’ve pulled together the top 11 Cosmic Frog FAQs that get into the nitty gritty of why Cosmic Frog is your new go-to supply chain design tool. Hop in and take a peek!

Cosmic Frog: Top 11 Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need to create a model from scratch to try out the software, or can you provide me with a sample model to get started?
A: Nope–we’ve got you covered. When you go to “Create a New Model”, you can select an example model that is pre-populated with data, scenarios, maps and dashboards so you can begin your experience immediately. You can also choose from pre-designed templates to accelerate your modeling process. When building the Cosmic Frog solution, we brought it back to the basics and re-engineered the supply chain data model from scratch to be extremely intuitive and fast to learn.
Q: Are we able to make connections to the backend data (or database) to upload/download model data for local analysis?
A: Absolutely! There are a few different ways to achieve this. One option is to simply make a direct cloud-based connection. This is great for those that use an ETL tool like Alteryx. You can easily connect via the cloud to help build on or refresh data in your model. And if your internet connection is scattered, we offer the ability to download that database and then upload it to Cosmic Frog.
Q: Using competitive systems, it’s difficult to run complicated network models. Compared to your primary competitors, how fast and robust is Cosmic Frog?
A: What better way to answer this than to quote our CEO, Don Hicks?
“These competitors you’re referring to are hybrid: half-desktop, and half-cloud-based solutions. On the other hand, Cosmic Frog is an entirely cloud-based solution that has proven to run hundreds of scenarios in the same amount of time it would take to run just one with our top competitor. Why? Because you have instant parallelization from wherever you are. We’re pretty thrilled about it!”

Q: Can I convert competitive models into Cosmic Frog models?
A: Yes! Cosmic Frog includes a model converter. Just take your model file, upload it, and it will immediately convert into a Cosmic Frog model and will appear in your workspace.
Q: Does Cosmic Frog have the ability to geocode addresses inside the product? What APIs do you have available?
A: Absolutely. We have already integrated the geocoding API. No need for another subscription or license, this is available to you right now. In addition to that, we support Bing, Google, PTV, and PC*MILER distance lookups. If you have these resources, you can add them to your Cosmic Frog account and get rolling.
Q: How do you simulate risk and resilience impact? Are you guys running a simulation engine such as a discrete event simulation approach in order to complement optimization outputs?
A: Yes, we have a discrete event simulation engine that uses the same data schema as the optimization engine. Because supply chain design must consider risk, we also provide a risk rating for all optimization AND simulation scenarios.

Q: Is the risk assessment purely done on the country level or can there be more detail? In bigger countries, the risk can differ dramatically between regions.
A: Some of the external risks are associated at the country level, such as political stability, while others are more granular, such as natural disaster risks, for example.
Q: What elements does the risk rating module take into consideration?
A: The risk rating engine considers internal risks and external risks. Examples of internal risks are the number of sources and capacity availability. Examples of external risks are geopolitical stability, natural disaster, distance from a nuclear power plant, etc.
Q: Do we need to supply data for the risk engine? If not, what is the source of the external risk data (e.g. geopolitical, natural disasters, etc.)?
A: The user does not need to supply any data for the risk engine. To calculate internal risks, our engine uses data from the model and external risks are calculated from external data sources, such as the World Bank, which Optilogic imports. A list of the specific sources is available for our users.
Q: What is the largest model you’ve run and what quantity of data can you comfortably model?
A: We’ve already worked with customers with enormous models–gigabytes of data! They come across very efficiently in Cosmic Frog. What’s great is that our solution allows large teams to collaborate on a single model and hyperscale as needed. But we encourage you to try to break our solution–bring it on!
Q: Can you start modeling with Cosmic Frog and switch to Python coding interchangeably?
A: Yes. Your Cosmic Frog model will live in the “File Explorer.” Once there, you can use all of the capabilities of the tech stack. If you right-click on the model, you can choose to open that model and see it within Atlas, our Python coding environment inside Cosmic Frog, and switch seamlessly.
